On Thursday 2 June at 15:00, Johan Lyngklip Hermansen defends his PhD dissertation entitled "Novel ultrasonographic insights into acute kidney injury and venous congestion after cardiac surgery".
Acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery is a frequent and serious postoperative complication. Venous congestion has gained an increasing amount of attention as a contributing factor in the development of acute kidney injury in patients with cardiac dysfunction and patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Novel renal, portal and hepatic Doppler ultrasound indices may be helpful for identifying patients with acute kidney injury and venous congestion. The current thesis aimed to describe the associations between acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery and perioperative ultrasound Doppler flow indices and perioperative changes in cardiac function. In addition, the effects of changing loading conditions and ventilator settings on the renal, portal and hepatic ultrasound indices were investigated in cardiac surgery patients.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Auditorium J116-113, Aarhus University Hospital, Palle Juul Jensens Boulevard 165, 8200 Aarhus N. Please read the attached press release for more information.
