On Friday 16 September at 14.00, Kasper Lolk defends his PhD disseration entitled "Traumatic Brain Injury and Risk of Epilepsy".
It is well known that epilepsy can occur as a consequence of head trauma, including concussion. However, it is unclear why some go on to develop epilepsy after head trauma while others do not. Epilepsy is associated with great personal and societal costs, and it is crucial to gain new insight into the underlying causes of the development of epilepsy in order to reduce the risk of epilepsy in people with head trauma.
In a new PhD project from Aarhus University, Health, the risk of developing epilepsy after one or more head traumas is studied, and how this risk varies according to sex, age, severity of and time since the trauma. It is also investigated how the risk of epilepsy after head trauma depends on mental illness, family history of epilepsy, birth characteristics and trauma-induced stroke.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Eduard Biermann auditorium, building 1252, Aarhus University. Please read the attached press release for more information.
