On Thursday 7 July at 14.00, Katrine Brodersen defends her PhD dissertation entitled "Fuel metabolism, insulin sensitivity and secretion following Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve gastrectomy in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes".
Bariatric surgery is an efficient treatment of obesity related T2D. The most frequently performed types of surgery are Roux-en-Y Gatsric Bypass (RYGB) and Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) where the latter impose less risk of side effects. While the effects of RYGB are well documented the mechanisms with which SG improve glucose tolerance remain less clear.
In a new PhD projects from Aarhus Universitet, Health the effect of the proceedures on glucose metabolism is examined by aplying an oral glucose tolerance test and a hyperinsulinemic glucose tolerance test before and 2 months after surgery in morbidly obese individuals with type 2 diabetets.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Auditorium C114-101 entrance C, C110, Aarhus University Hospital. Please read the attached press release for more information.
