On Thursday 7 July at 14:00, Morten Krogh Herlin defends his PhD dissertation entitled "Molecular genetics in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia without recurrent cytogenetic aberrations".

In this PhD project conducted at Aarhus University, Health, the molecular genetics and its prognostic impact in childhood acute myeloid myeloid leukemia (AML) without recurrent cytogenetic aberrations were investigated.

Studies of the genetic background in AML are important in order to gain knowledge of the disease biology, improve risk stratification, support disease monitoring and therapy guidance, and ultimately better the prognosis of children with AML. For many years, the detection of recurrent chromosomal aberrations has been an important part of the routine diagnostics. However, in a large group of patients none of these aberrations are found and for these patients molecular genetic analyses are needed. This PhD study set out to examine the group of childhood AML without recurrent cytogenetic aberrations in order to better understand the genetic background and its impact on the prognosis of this subgroup.
