On Thursday 28 May 2026 at 14:00, Bayan Sardini defends her PhD dissertation entitled “Effectiveness of Mammography Screening Across Socioeconomic Groups and Breast Cancer Survivors: An Evaluation Using Danish Health Registries”.
Mammography screening is widely used to detect breast cancer early, but its effectiveness may vary across population subgroups. A new PhD project from Aarhus University, Health, investigates how well
screening works across socioeconomic groups and among breast cancer survivors.
Using nationwide Danish health registries, the PhD project examines the long-term effectiveness of mammography screening. The research focuses on whether screening reduces the risk of dying from breast cancer and whether this effect differs depending on socioeconomic background or previous cancer history.
The findings show that breast cancer screening is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer death, but the magnitude of this association varies across groups.
The project applies advanced statistical methods to ensure fair comparisons between screened and unscreened women, allowing for a more accurate evaluation of screening programmes in real-world settings.
These results contribute to a better understanding of how breast cancer screening programme performs in different subgroups and may help inform future public health strategies.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Lille Anatomisk Auditorium, 1231-424, Aarhus University. Please see the press release for more information.
