On Friday 29 November at 13:00, Martin Bernstorff defends his PhD dissertation entitled "Prediction of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease among patients with mental illness by application of machine learning on electronic health record data".
People with mental illness are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These diseases can be prevented by targeted intervention. This, however, requires being able to identify precisely those patients who are at particularly elevated risk risk. Therefore, in a new PhD project from Aarhus University, Martin Bernstorff (MD) has investigated whether development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in patients with mental illness can be predicted using machine learning applied to data from electronic health records. The results are very promising.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in Store Auditorium, Nobelparken, Aarhus University. Please see the press release for more information.
