On Friday 28 August at 13:00, Rajan Shrestha defends his PhD dissertation entitled “Community-based Intervention for Physical Activity Promotion in Nepal”.
The project combined an evidence review, a comparison of questionnaire and wrist-worn activity measurements, development of training materials, and a community trial. Nepalese Female Community Health Volunteers were trained to give physical activity advice during household visits.
Questionnaires and activity monitors gave substantially different estimates of physical activity. In the trial, the programme did not produce a clear increase in activity, but the findings suggest that it may have limited a decline during follow-up. The research shows both the potential and challenges of using established community health services to support healthier daily movement.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in The Blue Auditorium, Victor Albeck Building 1266, Aarhus University. Please see the press release for more information.
