On Friday 23 October 2026 at 12:00, Rasmus Ellerup Kraghede defends his PhD dissertation entitled “Facilitating Pulmonary Rehabilitation by Intratracheal Sealing of Tracheostomy – preclinical and human feasibility assessment”.
When a tracheostomy tube is removed after prolonged mechanical ventilation, an opening remains in the neck, which may result in air leakage that impairs speech and the ability to generate an effective cough. A new method can seal the opening immediately decannulation and restore normal airflow through the upper airway. This is demonstrated in a new PhD project from Aarhus University, Health.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place in "Blå Auditorium" in Victor Albeck Building, Aarhus University. Please see the press release for more information.
