On Wednesday 17 June 2026 at 13:00, Sofie Meyer Andersen defends her PhD dissertation entitled “Multi-step risk-based prostate cancer screening across Europe: from risk to response”.

The PhD project focused on risk-stratified, multi-step prostate cancer screening in three European countries: Spain, Lithuania, and Poland. Men invited for screening completed questionnaires at multiple stages, including baseline (before PSA testing), after risk stratification, following MRI results, and after exiting the screening process. The study examined stress, anxiety, knowledge about prostate cancer, attitudes toward screening, and health literacy.

Findings indicate that low-risk results often reduce stress, while higher-risk findings can temporarily increase anxiety. Knowledge and health literacy generally improved through participation, highlighting the importance of clear communication and structured screening pathways. The research emphasizes how personalized information and stepwise screening can support informed decision-making and positive experiences for men undergoing prostate cancer screening.

The summary is written by the PhD student.

The defence is public and takes place in Auditorium, Entrance B, Level 2, B2, Randers Regional Hospital, Please see the press release for more information.
