Call for applications for a fully financed PhD fellowship
ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental condition that can affect school performance and educational pathways. Important questions remain about how educational outcomes vary according to sex, age at diagnosis, ADHD subtype, treatment, and family and clinical factors, and how these patterns differ across educational and healthcare systems. This project aims to generate knowledge to inform early, targeted interventions and improve support for individuals with ADHD.
The successful PhD candidate will use nationwide Danish register data to investigate educational trajectories and outcomes among individuals with ADHD. The project comprises three studies examining variation in educational outcomes, the role of treatment and other potential predictors, and similarities and differences between Denmark and Sweden. The candidate will replicate the analyses using comparable Swedish register data.
The PhD project is part of the DFF-funded project “Educational trajectories and outcomes in individuals with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD”, which aims to advance understanding of factors shaping educational pathways and outcomes among individuals with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.
The candidate will join the Neuroepidemiology group at the National Centre for Register-based Research (NCRR), Department of Public Health, Aarhus University. The group offers a strong and collaborative research environment, with close interaction with senior researchers, fellow PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and national and international collaborators. The team has expertise in register-based research, (pharmaco)epidemiology, statistics, ADHD, and child psychiatry and neurology.
As a PhD candidate, you will:
• Work with large-scale Danish and Swedish health and educational register data.
• Conduct advanced statistical analyses of educational trajectories, predictors and outcomes.
• Receive dedicated statistical and epidemiological support.
• Participate in courses, seminars and journal clubs.
• Present findings at conferences and publish in international peer-reviewed journals.
Please include a short project proposal (1–2 standard pages) outlining your approach to the research questions.
Appointment to the PhD position is subject to approval of the project by the Graduate School of Health. As part of the application process, the successful candidate is expected to prepare a project proposal (up to 5 pages) in collaboration with the supervisor team for submission to the Graduate School of Health.
We are looking for a highly motivated and curious candidate who has completed a master’s degree in public health, medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, or a related field.
• The candidate should have experience with statistical analysis using relevant software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS), as well as strong skills in data interpretation and presentation.
• Familiarity with epidemiological study designs and statistical methods for analysing longitudinal or register-based data is an advantage.
• Experience with large-scale population-based data or register-based research is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team in an international research environment.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written, are required.
