A Randomised Interventional Study on Integrated Treatment of Untreated Diabetes in Psychiatry

Call for applications for a fully financed PhD fellowship

A 3‑year PhD position is available at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, in collaboration with Psychiatric Services in the Central Denmark Region and Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, with an expected start date of 1 September 2026.

About the study

This study will be conducted across multiple hospitals in the Central Denmark Region in close collaboration with psychiatric services and Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus. The study is embedded in an interdisciplinary research group consisting of medical specialists in psychiatry and endocrinology, a postdoctoral researcher, a research nurse and clinical research supervisors.

The position is primarily affiliated with the Research Unit at the Department of Affective Disorders, Aarhus University Hospital, which offers a strong, interdisciplinary and dynamic research environment.

Responsibilities

The PhD student will play a central role in the study and is expected to:

  • Contribute to the recruitment of participants across hospital units in the Central Denmark Region (a valid driver’s license is required)
  • Perform clinical assessments and systematic data collection across the intervention and control groups
  • Participate in clinical assessment and management in close collaboration with the study’s medical specialists
  • Coordinate research activities with study sites and collaborating partners
  • Perform data analysis and prepare scientific manuscripts
  • Teach and supervise junior doctors and medical students
  • Undertake administrative and practical tasks related to the study

Terms of Employment

The position is a fully funded, full-time PhD position of three years’ duration.Salary and terms of employment are stipulated in accordance with the current collective agreement.

Qualifications

Required qualifications: Applicants must hold a medical degree (MD)

Desired qualifications:

  • Clinical experience in psychiatry, as the study involves substantial patient contact
  • Previous experience with clinical research
  • An outgoing and approachable nature, with effective communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills and a high level of professional commitment
  • The ability to work independently with a structured approach
  • Well-developed organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility regarding work location and working hours
