PhD position in geriatrics research

Department of Clinical Medicin at Aarhus University is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious PhD student to join an innovative clinical research project investigating the role of iron treatment in older adults following hip fractures. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a rigorous randomised controlled trial with direct clinical relevance for one of the fastest growing patient populations.

About the project

Hip fractures are a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and functional decline in older adults. Post operative anaemia is common and may impair recovery. This PhD project is embedded in a double blinded, placebo controlled randomised trial evaluating whether oral or intravenous iron supplementation reduces fatigue, improves clinical outcomes, functional recovery, and quality of life in older patients after hip fracture surgery.

The PhD student will be involved in all aspects of the trial, including patient recruitment, data collection, clinical assessments, data analysis, and dissemination of findings. The project offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of geriatrics, clinical trials, and translational medicine.

Key responsibilities includes to:

• participate in the daily execution of the clinical trial

• recruit and follow up with study participants

• conduct clinical and functional assessments

• manage and analyse quantitative data

• prepare manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals

• present findings at national and international conferences

• contribute to the academic environment of the Geriatric Research Unit

Qualifications

The applicant need to have a master's degree in medicine and a strong interest in geriatrics, clinical research, and patient centred outcomes.

Experience with clinical data collection or patient contact is an advantage, and skills in quantitative methods and statistical analysis (or willingness to learn).

Furthermore, excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team are a necessity.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is expected.
